The purpose of the job is to lead new packaging design and development projects, from concept through to implementation in our factory network. In addition, they will be accountable for complex projects aimed at improving the design and performance of our existing packaging portfolio, and to ensure that opportunities to optimise costs are identified and realised.

Key Responsibilities

  • Will lead the technical packaging design and development for a variety of complex projects (Innovation, Renovation, Supply Cost Savings).
  • Accountable for the Optimisation of existing packs and packaging materials to improve cost, quality and how they perform on our machine.
  • Will lead the development of new packaging concepts, materials and their testing methods.
  • Accountable for the success of line trials in the clients factories/suppliers/co-packers including the relevant documentation and presentation of results
  • Responsible for producing packaging samples in the Packaging Lab or through suppliers.
  • Will lead the development of new packaging materials that are fit for purpose.
  • Accountable for ensuring our packaging systems are fit for purpose e.g. Veritas
  • Accountable for delivering robust packaging specifications.
  • Accountable for all packaging project deliveries.
  • Lead the proactive management of Intellectual Property risks and opportunities.
  • Will lead project risk management and inform/influence the project team.
  • Will lead and challenge trade requirements, and on-shelf/off-shelf impact in all channels including Grocery, Specialist pet trade, hard discounters and E-commerce
  • Responsible to support Brand Board technical representatives as required.
  • Accountable to ensure packaging solutions deliver to business model as part of segment strategy.
  • Accountable for building functional excellence in Packaging Materials, Process and scale up.
  • Accountable for providing training and support to other associates, within the Packaging fields in which the job holder has expertise.

  • Role and level of independence (e.g.: general guidelines, detailed instructions etc)

  • Generating new packaging ideas, initiating new packaging projects and leading/further developing the technical/quality standards requires a high level of independence and self-responsibility.

  • Level of routine (e.g.: familiar or reappearing operations, varying tasks etc)

  • Low. To lead Global innovation projects is always a new challenge. The job holder must fully understand interactions of packaging along the entire supply chain and have the ability to methodically carry out complex analyses.

  • Description of interfaces (e.g.: related departments, customers, suppliers etc)

  • Internal interfaces: Pack Innovation + Acceleration, Commercial (Pack and Co-packing Buying, Supplier Quality Assurance), CMI/CTI, Engineering, Supply, Logistics, Marketing, Activity Management

    Global External Interfaces: Packaging Suppliers, Co-Packers, Packaging Organisations and Institutes

  • Degree of guiding and disposition allowance (e.g.: number of associates, budget etc)

  • 5.Acountable for Packaging Project spend
